The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced and influential Senior Commercial Manager to lead our strategic relationship with Sainsbury’s, one of the most significant retail partners within the Samworth Brothers Meals division.

This is a high-impact role where you will shape customer strategy, drive category leadership, and influence business decisions across our entire Sainsbury’s portfolio. As the primary commercial interface, you’ll build trusted relationships with cross-functional teams both internally and externally—ensuring we deliver best‑in‑class execution, commercially robust decisions, and collaborative ways of working.


Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the full commercial relationship with Sainsbury’s, ensuring financial performance, margin delivery, and accurate forecasting.
  • Oversee NPD, EPD and end‑to‑end project delivery, collaborating with Development, Technical, Operations and Finance to hit timelines and commercial targets.
  • Drive strategic customer plans using category insight to position Samworth Brothers Meals as a supplier of choice.
  • Manage customer administration, service levels, pricing and promotional strategies, ensuring high‑quality communication with all stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership across the business and develop your direct report through structured coaching and clear progression plans.

This is a hybrid role, requiring regular travel between: Kettleby Foods, Melton Mowbray (LE13 1GA) Saladworks, Leicester (LE3) Sainsbury’s Head Office, London

 
The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience managing a major UK retailer—Sainsbury’s or another top-four grocery retailer is highly desirable.
  • Strong FMCG background, ideally within chilled food manufacturing.
  • High commercial acumen with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong leadership capability with experience developing and empowering others.
  • Highly organised with strong project management skills.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent is preferred.
