The Opportunity
In this role as Category Technical Manager, you’ll be a key member of the Food for Now (FFN) Leadership Team, taking ownership of the technical and quality agenda across the category. Playing a pivotal role in driving technical excellence, safeguarding product quality, and leading innovation across our diverse portfolio – including Urban Eat, Leaf & Loaf, West Cornwall Pasty Co., Real Wrap/Radar Rd, and associated depots.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of Technical Account Managers and specialists.
- Ensure successful delivery of New Product Development (NPD) and Existing Product Development (EPD) projects.
- Provide technical support to our Aylesbury manufacturing facility, driving continuous improvement and alignment to FTG standards.
- Own and manage the technical gate process, ensuring safe and consistent product launches.
- Lead food safety risk management and incident responses across the category.
- Deliver KPI reporting, quality improvement initiatives, and support wider FTG technical strategy.

We’re looking for someone with a proven background in food technical management, who can balance strategic leadership with hands-on problem solving.
- A degree (or equivalent) in a food science or related discipline.
- Significant experience (5+ years) in technical/quality management within chilled food manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, retailer standards, and BRC requirements.
- HACCP Level 4 and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications.
- Experience of leading teams, coaching and mentoring.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
