The Opportunity
 
The Category Technical Services Manager is responsible for managing the Technical Services functions to ensure systems are fit for purpose, accessible, compliant with customer codes of practice, and consider all aspects of food safety, quality, and legality. This role ensures that Walkers Deli & Sausage Co meets all necessary legislative and agreed customer standards and best practice industry guidance with regard to raw materials and supply chain, and food safety through a robust quality management and risk assessment approach.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Services Management:
    • Manage the Technical Services functions to ensure systems are fit for purpose, accessible, and compliant.
    • Ensure all technical systems take into account food safety, quality, and legality.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Ensure compliance with all legislative and agreed customer standards and best practice industry guidance.
    • Implement and maintain quality management and risk assessment approaches for food safety.
  • Customer and External Relations:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and external contacts.
    • Utilize external feedback and industry insights for continuous improvement.
  • Risk Management:
    • Manage the team to control, monitor, and risk assess TACCP (Threat Assessment and Critical Control Points) and VACCP (Vulnerability Assessment and Critical Control Points) plans.
  • Data and Reporting:
    • Ensure consistency in systems that generate data and reports.
    • Meet reporting commitments for the business internally, across the group, and externally.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Collaborate with the Technical Manager to define and achieve the overall strategic business plan and objectives.

  • Degree/HND (Food Science/Technology/Science based subject)
  • Extensive technical experience in a food manufacturing business
  • Ideally experience of high / low risk production (Ideally chilled /meat products)
  • Experience of a dealing with multiple retailers
  • Ideally experience of meat products / regulations
  • Natural co-ordinator with the ability to communicate effectively with all departments.
  • Ability to deal with complex or challenging situations in a professional manner and seek effective, long-term, win-win solutions.
  • Drive and energy to make things happen, to deliver results on time and with control of cost / effective management of KPI’s
  • Strength of character to accept feedback, seek advice and guidance, and to approach errors as opportunity for learning.
  • Leadership and management style which promotes individual accountability, through coaching and recognition to inspire high performance.
